This room was named for…

Dr. Dannelly was well known throughout the Twin Counties for his high standard of patient care and interest in physical fitness, which extended to extensive involvement with high school athletes.  He volunteered his time to give free sports physicals at local high schools and spent time on the sidelines at football games at all three high schools.

Dr. Dannelly preached the doctrine of physical fitness at every age and many listened and benefited.  His final act of encouraging the Twin Counties and all visitors to the New River Trail State Park to better fitness was to lend his name and support to the Edward A. Dannelly III Fitness Complex.  No better monument to his character could be devised.

He was the sort of guy who’d go for a smooth, asphalt track, kids on a slide and Nike-clad mamas laughing and picking bits of mulch off the kiddies’ clothes as they pile back into the family van after an afternoon of exercise beside Chestnut Creek.

He had many interests from fitness to a rose garden at his old office to photography to astronomy to hosting foreign exchange students, but none brought him as much pleasure as his family

Dr. Dannelly was a supporter of the New River Trail from the day it opened, and as long as Chestnut Creek flows and the New River runs, his spirit will remain there.
