This room is named after…

Dr. Jack Bolen touched the hearts of all who knew him.  He made a big contribution to the Galax area as an outstanding physician and as a citizen who was proud to be born here.  Hundreds, perhaps thousands of children were brought into this world by him, sometimes without charge to people who could not afford to pay for his services.  He was a generous and good man with a vast host of friends and counselor to many who just needed to talk.  He loved his family first, last and always.

Dr. Bolen had more influence in assuring the building of Twin County Community Hospital than any other person.  In the late 1960′s, there was much competition between the two hospitals in Galax.  He was able to mediate between the facilities and convince the owners to sacrifice for the good of the area. In 1999, Twin County Regional Hospital officially opened the Bolen Women’s Education Center.  This room offers free literature, a video library, TV and VCR as well as Internet access to women’s health web sites.  It is a private, comfortable place for women to learn.
